In Memory of Sheldon G. Cohen, MD, FAAAAI

The AAAAI was saddened to learn that Sheldon G. Cohen, MD, FAAAAI, passed away on March 26. Dr. Cohen had been an AAAAI member for 63 years, joining in 1950. He became a Fellow in 1953 and an Emeritus Fellow in 1989.

Dr. Cohen served as AAAAI Historian from 1963 to 1969. In 1968, during the celebration of the American Academy of Allergy’s 25-year anniversary, the Executive Committee asked him to write a history of the organization, the result of which appeared in the 50-year anniversary issue of The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI) in November 1979. He later served as the section editor for the “Allergy Archives” historical milestones series in the JACI from 1999 to 2009. He also received the AAAAI Distinguished Service Award in 1971 and the Special Recognition Award in 1989 and 2002.
