Coming Soon: AAAAI’s School-based Asthma Management Program (SAMPRO)

Improving health and school-related outcomes for children with asthma requires integrated care coordination amongst families, clinicians and school nurses. To facilitate this, the AAAAI is launching the School-based Asthma Management Program (SAMPRO™), which will standardize recommendations for school-based asthma and provide useful resources for the care of asthmatic children in schools.

Developed in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders including the National Association of School Nurses, SAMPRO™ will be detailed in a paper included in the upcoming September issue of The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI). The JACI paper will be accompanied by an online toolkit with information designed to allow implementation of SAMPRO into local communities across the country.

SAMPRO™ stems from the presidential initiatives of Immediate Past-President Robert F. Lemanske, Jr., MD, FAAAAI, who sought to create a unified and sustainable approach to provide the best asthma care possible for children within the school, extended community and family environments. Look for more information about SAMPRO™ next month.
