AMA Offers Resource on Medicare Sequester

On April 1, a 2 percent across-the-board cut in Medicare provider payments will take effect. The sequestration is required by the Budget Control Act that was signed into law in August 2011. It was originally intended as an incentive for the so-called Super Committee convened that year to design an alternative package to achieve $1.2 trillion in budget savings. As it stands now, the sequester will be in effect for nine years, unless Congress and the White House are able to reach a significant deficit reduction agreement that replaces it.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has put together a series of FAQs to respond to questions regarding the implementation of this cut, as well as some related issues.
