2016 Hope American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED)/AAAAI Pilot Grant Award

The Hope APFED/AAAAI Pilot Grant Award was established to allow investigators from a variety of disciplines to initiate new projects relevant to eosinophilic disorders, excluding asthma, rhinitis and eczema. Successful applications will focus on the development of new ideas which are likely to lead to future external funding. 

The 2016 Hope APFED/AAAAI Pilot Grant Award is a collaborative award program between APFED and AAAAI. The award program is administered by the AAAAI and equally funded by each association.

Eligible applicants must be:

  • An AAAAI member in good standing at the time of application
  • MD, DO, Nursing Doctorate, PhD, or MD/PhD
  • Full-time faculty appointment as an instructor or higher level at a medical school in the US (Priority will be given to applicants at or below the rank of associate professor)
  • Appointed primarily to an allergy section or division
  • Independent, self-directed researchers for whom their institution must provide space and other resources customary for independent investigators
  • Able to convey the commitment of the institution to the applicant and the proposed research activities

Applicants from institutions that do not have accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, U.S. Department of Agriculture and/or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee are not eligible to apply.

ALA/AAAAI Foundation Allergic Respiratory Diseases Research Award

This award represents a joint effort between the American Lung Association (ALA) and the AAAAI Foundation. The ALA/AAAAI Foundation Allergic Respiratory Diseases Research Award serves to encourage and support research on advancing the understanding of allergic respiratory diseases. It is for $75,000 per year.

No more than 25% of the requested budget may be used for an awardee’s salary and/or fringe benefits and no more than 30% of the total award budget may be used to fund the purchase of permanent equipment.

Grant funds may be used for the salary and fringe benefit costs of personnel other than the applicant. Fringe benefit costs may only be expended upon the stipulation that they not be obtained from another source.

All awards are subject to availability of funds at the ALA on the start date. Grants are subjected to annual review and may be granted for two years. The second year of support is based on demonstrating satisfactory progress, as well as, the availability of funding from the ALA and the AAAAI Foundation.

Award recipients will be selected by a review panel composed of representatives from both the ALA and the AAAAI Foundation. Awards are administered by the ALA but the funding of the award is split equally by each association.

A letter of intent is not required for the ALA/AAAAI Foundation Allergic Respiratory Diseases Research Award. All applications must be submitted electronically through proposalCENTRAL. The deadline for submission is December 16, 2015.

At the time of application, the applicant must hold a doctoral degree, have a primary faculty appointment in an allergy/immunology division/section of an academic institution, be undertaking a project related to allergic respiratory disease, and have completed a training fellowship. Applicants must be independent, self-directed researchers for whom their institution must provide space and other resources customary for independent investigators. The application must convey the commitment of the institution to the applicant and the proposed research activities. Applicants may be at any level of research experience but priority will be given to applicants at or below the rank of associate professor.
