Travel Awards Still Available for 2016 AAAAI Annual Meeting
Allied Health Scholarship Travel Award
If you are an AAAAI allied health member, you can apply for scholarship travel awards worth up to $750 to help with the expense of attending the Annual Meeting. A minimum of eight awards will be given by the AAAAI’s Allied Health Professionals Assembly.
These include complimentary registration to the 2016 Annual Meeting, where you can network with colleagues and attend scientific sessions, including ones targeted specifically to allied health professionals.
A major part of the award application is submission of a description of an interesting allergic, asthmatic, respiratory or immunologic case or program. Topics could include an educational program (in house or community-based), a practice enhancement or a clinical treatment situation. The description must be 650 words or less and demonstrate how the allied health professional increased the quality of care that they and their practice provide to patients.
Awardees will be recognized at the 2016 AAAAI Annual Meeting. The award recipients will also be required to present a brief synopsis of their submission, including outcomes, during a special allied health session. Visit annualmeeting.aaaai.org to access the online application, which must be submitted by November 13. Awardees will be notified if they have been selected to receive an award. For more information, contact John Augustyniak at (414) 272-6071 or jaugustyniak@aaaai.org.
Domestic Fellow-In-Training/Post-Doctoral Fellow-In-Training Travel Scholarship
These travel awards provide financial assistance to fellows-in-training (FITs) and non-faculty post-doctoral FITs to attend the 2016 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles. An applicant must be an AAAAI member prior to submitting an application. Individuals with a faculty appointment or who have completed their fellowship training before the 2016 Annual Meeting are ineligible.
Awardees can receive a maximum of five travel awards throughout the term of their training. There are three different eligibility categories: allergy/immunology FIT, post-doctoral FIT and FIT in a medical or surgical specialty other than allergy/immunology. The submission deadline is November 13. Access additional information and the application can be found here.
National Allergy Bureau (NAB) Stations
At the 2016 Annual Meeting, the aerobiology courses will now be a stand-alone program on Thursday, March 3. The program will present a morning session on Advanced Pollen Identification and an afternoon session on Advanced Fungal Spore Identification.
These courses serve as prerequisites to the NAB certification exam and provide training for identifying airborne pollen grain and fungal spores, a fundamental skill of the specialty.
Note these courses will now have a separate registration, not included with regular registration and attendance at the Annual Meeting. Alternately, you can register for the aerobiology courses without attending the rest of the meeting.
The AAAAI Board of Directors is providing ten $200 scholarships to offset the cost for any NAB stations who wish to send new counters or certified counters wanting to update their skills. The scholarship application deadline is January 15, 2016.
